Have done a similar trip several years ago - Vancouver to Calgary to Grand Prarie, then drive to Fairview for a family wedding, in March. I hadn't been up to the farm my Dad grew up on for over 40 years and couldn't recognise it. Only one building from that time remained, replaced by a bunch of new silos and a dryer, and an almost finished structure for the machinery that resembled an aircraft hanger.
